Nelson Businesses Connect to Prepare for Wildfire Season

Last week’s Business After Business: Emergency Preparedness Edition brought together members of the Nelson business community to proactively prepare for the 2025 wildfire season. Hosted by the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce, this engaging networking event offered business owners practical tools, resources, and expert advice to enhance resilience and readiness in the face of growing climate-related risks.

The event featured informative presentations from Community Futures Central Kootenay, Nelson & Kootenay Lake Tourism, and HUB International Insurance, who outlined steps businesses can take to assess vulnerabilities, protect property, and maintain continuity in the event of an evacuation or service disruption.

Key Resources Shared at the Event:

Tips for Business Wildfire Preparedness:

  • ✅ Develop and practice a workplace evacuation plan.
  • ✅ Prepare a business continuity strategy and back up essential files.
  • ✅ Identify and address fire risks on and around your premises.
  • ✅  Ensure all staff are informed and trained in emergency procedures.
  • ✅  Keep emergency kits on-site, clearly marked, and accessible.
