Deep, fluffy, world-class powder. Give ’er.
Nelson and area is world renowned for its exceptional skiing and boarding conditions. Its deep, pure powder snow is legendary. At centre stage is Whitewater Ski Resort which is a 20-minute drive from town. It gets over 12 metres …yes that’s 40 feet…of light, dry, powder every season. Offering over 623 metres / 2044 feet of steeps, deeps, chutes, bowls, and glades the resort is also famous for hosting some amazing festivals and events, on and off the mountain.
Whitewater Ski Resort is part of the famed Powder Highway on route 95A comprising seven outstanding skiing destinations from the East to the West Kootenay.
The region is also a backcountry paradise. The deep powder and terrain in the Nelson and Kootenay Lake region is home to five local cat ski operators: Baldface, Selkirk Snowcat Skiing, Retallack, White Grizzly and Valhalla Powder Cats. Together, they have earned us the designation as the Cat Ski Capital of the World.
Only ten minutes outside of Nelson you’ll find the popular cross-country trails at the Nelson Nordic Ski Club. There are over 25 kms of trails developed and maintained by paid and volunteer club members. There are lights for night skiing,
two warming huts and trails rated beginner to expert.
Tips:
Tip: Whitewater Ski Resort’s seasons pass offers a variety of perks including discounts at multiple other hills who are members of the Powder Alliance, as well as discounts on gear at their retail shop & rentals.
