Easy Ways to Save On Energy This Winter

Stay Cozy, Save Energy: Simple Winter Tips for Local Businesses

The holidays are here — and so is peak energy-use season. As temperatures drop and daylight hours shorten, small adjustments can go a long way in helping your business stay warm, efficient, and cost-conscious.

Throughout the winter, we’re sharing simple reminders that can make a meaningful difference. These are easy changes you can implement right away, without disrupting your day-to-day operations.

Adjust thermostats and schedule heating.

Set heating systems to an appropriate temperature during business hours, and lower the set point after hours or when spaces aren’t in use. Many businesses find that reducing temperatures to around 16–17°C overnight helps cut energy use without sacrificing comfort.

Seal gaps around windows and doors.

Cold air leaks add up quickly. Weatherstripping doors and windows helps prevent heat loss, keeps indoor spaces more comfortable, and reduces the strain on your heating system during cold winter days.

Use LED holiday decorations.

If you’re decorating for the season, LED lights are a smart choice. They use significantly less energy than traditional bulbs, and pairing them with timers helps avoid unnecessary overnight use.

Turn off lights and equipment at night.

Before closing up, switch off lights, holiday decorations, office equipment, appliances, and other electronics that aren’t needed overnight. It’s a simple habit that can noticeably reduce energy consumption over time.
