20 years ago, Kootenay Co-op Radio was a sparkle in the eyes of locals who felt the Kootenays needed a community radio station that expresses the unique spirit of the area. Since that time, we’ve built a radio station that broadcasts to communities throughout the West Kootenay and reaches even more listeners through internet streaming.
Member-owned and operated Kootenay Coop radio (CJLY) has served up eclectic music programming and spoken word shows exploring local issues, opinions, and events happening in our community. With almost 100 hours of original programming created by our passionate team of volunteer hosts each week, KCR is the destination for listeners who want an authentic Kootenay experience in French and English.
The Kootenay Columbia College of Integrative Health Sciences (KCCIHS), formerly the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences (ACOS), is a well-established school with over 20 years of Private Training Institutes Branch (PTIB) accreditation. This standing means that our programs, instructors, and facilities are all government-approved and regulated and that our students are eligible for student loans. Our Traditional Chinese Medicine graduates have successful practices all over the world and KCCIHS is renowned for its comprehensive educational programs and its rigorous academic standards.
The Kootenay Columbia College of Integrative Health Sciences is located in the heart of the Kootenay Columbia region of BC , Canada. Offering courses in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Registered Massage Therapy, and a Holistic Nutrition Program, it is the only institution of its kind in the area.
At KCCIHS our programs are distinct and demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to health and healthcare. The Kutenai Art Therapy Institute (KATI) is dedicated to the belief that the creative process is healing and life enhancing and that the use of the expressive arts can contribute therapeutically to both individual and community health.
Education
KATI offers a two-year diploma program in art therapy.
Students can take the program in one of two formats: on-campus or blended distance. The curriculum uses a relational model which emphasizes the therapeutic needs of rural communities, the importance of Indigenous approaches to art therapy and research, and the value of maintaining a sense of connection with the natural world.
Community
KATI offers a host of art therapy services throughout the Kootenays through student clinical placements, the local school districts, and partnerships with local service agencies.

The space
Welcome to our luxurious Grand Loft, a chic and comfortable retreat. As you enter, you’ll be greeted by soaring ceilings, wood floors, and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lake.
The Master bedroom boasts unique barn doors opening onto the beautiful living area below, a luxurious king bed, and a cozy electric fireplace sitting area. The Master loft also has a round pedestal table and chairs and a dream en-suite with a soaker tub and spacious waterfall shower.
The Canter room has a tranquil ambiance with a white horse mural and its own private full ensuite. The Canter room features deluxe bedding on a comfortable queen bed and closet space.
Relax in the living room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and leather sectional couch, or prepare a meal in the enormous kitchen with its gas stove and 10′ fir slab bar with stools. When it’s time to dine, gather around the stunning live edge hand-hewn fir dinner table.
Step outside onto the private mountain/lake view balcony and unwind in the jacuzzi hot tub for two. Our home also features a washer/dryer and keyless code lock for your convenience.
While the railroad tracks run right in front of the suite, with trains passing by a couple of times a day, most guests find this interesting and no problem at all. The trains run fairly slow and don’t usually honk on this end of town. The tracks run all along the lake, and therefore the train can also be heard through much of the town.

First Aid Training in the Kootenays

Make A Change Canada was established in 2005 as a national nonprofit and charitable organization that provides employment and skills training to Canadians who face challenges in finding or maintaining employment in today’s labour market. We are accredited (since 2015) through the Imagine Canada Standards Program, one of just over 200 charitable organizations in Canada to have achieved this important standing. Make A Change Canada is exempted from certification under the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB), Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, and is a certified educational institution under Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). This means we are authorized to provide students with T2202A certificates to claim a tuition tax credit. Make A Change Canada has assisted hundreds of individuals in the local community to attain the skills they need to move on to meaningful careers and increased earnings. The net benefit extends to our clients’ families, to local businesses requiring employees with essential technology skills, and to the local economy.
