Phil Best is a born and raised Kootenay boy. Except for work and school absences he has lived in the Kootenays, by choice, realizing that it was unique and there was no need to leave in search of that “something special”. There were photographs to be taken, everywhere.
Graduating with a diploma in Regional and Community Planning from Selkirk College and another in Transportation Technology from BCIT he has worked within government his entire career, with a short stay at the Ministry of Forests, the remainder with the Ministry of Transportation. After enjoying over thirty years as an amateur photographer and thirty-six years with government, Phil is now taking advantage of an early retirement and is turning his attention towards photography full time.
Phil enjoys the solitude of the outdoors and travel. Trips to Greece, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Morocco have produced beautiful images, but mostly loves to record the beauty of the Kootenays with regular adventures. Phil has had his works published by National Geographic, the Kaslo Jazz Fest, twice on the cover of the Kootenays Go and Do magazine, Otter Books Kootenay Calendar, local newspapers including a cover of the Kootenay Express and business brochures. He has also had a successful public show of his work.
Some things change in peoples lives, some things don’t. He has always loved photography. I hope you enjoy his work.
