Artwalk 2004 - 16th Annual
Artwalk is a Nelson summer tradition at which gallery venues showcase the works of some of our finest regional artists. There are opening receptions the first Friday of each month that locals and visitors can attend, enjoying refreshments, and meeting the artists. It is presented by the Nelson & District Arts Council. Kootenay Gay Pride Weekend
Eighth Annual Kootenay Gay Pride in Nelson BC : Sept 2-5, 2004

Gay Pride is a celebration to unite gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and polyamorous members of our community, as well as our straight friends, families and supporters.

Who We Are:
Kootenay Gay Pride aims to build bridges between people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We came together in 1996 to celebrate sexual diversity. Kootenay Gay Pride brings visibility to sexual minorities within our communities. It is important to recognize that heterosexist and homophobic attitudes are harmful and impact society as a whole.

SHENANGO CD RELEASE CONCERT SEPTEMBER 25TH,2004

SHENANGO: A UNIQUE ARRANGEMENT

Shenango is an a capella women's ensemble dedicated to singing and laughter! The group's name originates from the Shenango Canyon on the Salmo River, home to their annual bacchanalia. Over the last several years the group's eclectic repertoire and obvious love of singing together have become their hallmark.
The CD covers a wide variety of styles, both in choice of piece,( traditional, modern, or cultural,) and in the basic singing of the song.

The Nelson Road Kings - The Queen City Cruise 2004
The Queen City Cruise 2004 begins at 4 p.m. Friday night with registration at Bogustown Pub, followed by a city cruise thru town to the airport where the burnout and flame throw competition will then take place. Saturday's events include the Show & Shine, the Poker Run to Balfour and back, followed by a dinner and a dance. Sunday will be a day for wind-up, with a pancake breakfast at Lakeside Park. Sep 11 All Souls Night 2004 - Brainstorming & Planning Meeting - Saturday, 11th September 1-4pm
The Magic begins on Saturday as we come together to co-create another fantastic All Souls Night Festival! Human Rites Initiative invites one and all to participate in this event. After the success of last year's event at Taghum Beach, west of Nelson, Columbia Basin Trust has offered funding for this year's event. There were over 40 performers and between 400-500 participants. Come and join the fun, bring your ideas, your enthusiasm and your imagination! This is where it all begins. Are you inspired to perform or volunteer to help make the magic happen! Sep 12 The West Kootenay Toy Run
This annual event takes place on the second Sunday in September. The Toy Run began in 1987 and more join the fun each year. Local motorcycle enthusiasts gather in Castlegar for a day of fun and charity. The toy run starts off with a pancake breakfast and a ride through downtown Castlegar. A 30-minute ride takes participants to Nelson. Registration takes place at 10:30. At 11:15 Baker Street is taken over by the approximately 300 Bikes. At noon the motorcycles stop in Salmo at the Fire Hall. From there they travel to Fruitvale, Trail and up to Rossland. A short stop at the Annual Rossland Golden City Days and a pass through downtown then back to Castlegar.
Raffle tickets can be purchased in August and early September at local merchandisers. Donated prizes can be won.
This annual event raises money for local Christmas food hampers and many local charities.

Sep 12 Nelson SPCA 'Paws for a Cause' walkathon
The second annual Nelson SPCA“Paws for a Cause”walkathon is Sunday Sept.12,10–2, at Lakeside Park. Support the local SPCA and animals in need in our community.

One day a year you can enjoy beautiful Lakeside Park with your dog! This amily oriented event includes dog agility,obedience demonstrations, contests and great prize draws. Event registration begins at 10 am, with the 2k walk along the pathway starting at noon.

The $20 registration fee will be waived if you gather more than $75 in pledges ($50 for kids). All dogs in the park MUST be registered for the walk.

The Bookworms in Nelson invite you to the First Annual Kootenay Book Discussion Weekend! Inspired by the Banff Book Weekend held successfully for more than forty years; keen readers here in Nelson decided to launch our own Book Discussion Weekend.
The book selections are guaranteed to stimulate thought and discussion on an adult level. This friendly and informal event is held at the Best Western in Nelson, BC. Prize-winning author of “Sitting Practice”, Caroline Adderson, will be the guest speaker.
The weekend begins at 6 p.m. Friday, September 17 and concludes at noon on Sunday, September 19.
The other three books to be discussed are “The Lost Garden” by Helen Humphreys; “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers; and “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress” by Dai Sijie.
All participants will be able to nominate and cast their votes for next year’s book selections and we will have an entire year in which to read them. Author readings, door prizes, gift certificates and great food all add to a fun and fabulous reader’s discussion weekend!

Narrow Good: Internment, collects discrete objects in black boxes, putting them to rest, ghostly reminders of absence in recorded history, missing stories in the thickness of being and time.
Narrow goods are braids, ribbons and similar woven articles, notions of the material sort. The pieces in The Narrow Good are ghostly reminders of absence in recorded history, notions of an ideational sort: textile, mixed-media pieces which centre upon the breadth of lifetimes which have existed in the margins of history and in particular, those burnt alive.
